Come share in an exciting and unique travel & service opportunity to Costa Rica. Through this journey
you will have a true opportunity to experience the authentic rich culture of the country while doing work to support the people, communities, and the preservation of the land and the environment. Our guides for this adventure will be Joshua Canter, Kristin “Luna” Canter, and Mauricio Jaen, the co-founders of the CREER Service Organization. Throughout the program you will have an unforgettable experience, full of adventures through the Costa Rica landscape, connections with the local people, and outreach work. In a time where our world is becoming more and more of a global family, what better way to support the bridge of support we are creating, by being part of this service retreat to Costa Rica.We will participate in several service projects scheduled for ½ of our time. Our service will include projects such as: tree planting, work on the local school garden, maintenance of schools, work on a local library being built, care for the endangered turtles on the beaches andbeach cleanup, and the opportunity to share your individual gifts with the children (ie. art, music, dance, sports).Lodging is in rustic cabins and dorms. Our program will spend time in a beach community of Matapalo and in the mountain community of La Florida. This program will be in partnership with CESLL Program at Prescott College in Arizona, Indian Hill Church, and the True Nature Education Center.

Service and Adventure Program Builds a Bridge of Support from the US to Costa Rica April 30, 2009
Posted by hobe2001 in : Uncategorized , comments closed This past March, 18 participants from the United States traveled to Costa Rica to take part in the CREER Costa Rica Service and Adventure Program. The program took part in two villages in the Southern Pacific Region of Costa Rica. Site #1 was in the Beach Village of Matapalo. While in the village The CREER Service Team worked hand in hand with the local villagers painting a mural , building a beach volleyball court, cleaning the beach, and creating a new Welcome Sign for the village. In addition to service work, the group, which consisted of people from ages 15 to 72, spent time at the incredible Matapalo Beach, learned to surf, made jewlery with a local jeweler, went horseback riding, and visited Manuel Antonio National Park.
The second half of the program took place in the mountain village of La Florida. The main mission at Site #2 was to renovate the La Florida School. The CREER Service Team painted the school, sanded and varnished desks and chairs, repaired windows, and worked in the school garden.
One participant shared, "This is the most meaningful trip I have ever been a part of. I have been on vacations all over the world, doing service in Costa Rica has changed my life."
CREER has three Service Programs planned for 2010. There will be one program in January (TBA) followed by two programs in March 20-27 and March 27-April 3.

Posted by hobe2001 in : Uncategorized , comments closedGreetings from Kristin Luna, Joshua, Mauricio and the CREER Service Organization,
Happy Holidays to you, and best wishes during this special time of year. As many of you may know, two years ago we founded the CREER (“to believe” in Spanish) Service Organization. CREER’s vision is to create an international bridge helping to provide support, education, and resources to the rural villages of Costa Rica.
We currently spend half of each year in our home in the village of La Florida in Costa Rica, where the many local residents have so openly and kindly accepted us into their world. Between their generous, heartfelt actions, and witnessing the accelerated motion of their beautiful culture changing, we felt moved to contribute to their well-being through these times. When moving to a second world country, we were truly able to feel the privileges we have in our life and how much of an opportunity we have to give back. The CREER Service Organization is our attempt to do so.
Some of the Projects CREER is currently working on include:
Tres Hermanas Clothing Company
CREER is currently funding and supporting the beginning of a local clothing company run by the village women of La Florida.
The Diamante Valley Library Project
CREER is currently helping to fund the building of a new Diamante Library in the village of La Florida.
Project "Opportunity"
This summer (winter in the United States), CREER will provide free educational workshops to local residents in a multitude of areas. Some of these workshops include sewing, auto repair, small business management, and carpentry. Educators will be brought to the village due to the lack of resources the villagers have to travel out for education.
CREER Educational Forums
CREER regularly holds educational forums in the village for the foreigners visiting and moving into the country, providing an opportunity to discuss sensitive issues around cultural integration and social awareness.
School Bridge Program
CREER is working to connect the schools in the villages of Costa Rica with schools in the United States, creating an international bridge of friendship and education for the children. CREER's first School Bridge will begin later this year with the John Thomas Dye School in Los Angeles, and the La Florida School in Costa Rica.
CREER is a non-profit 501 (c)3 based in the United States. All donations are tax deductible. CREER operates with an organization called SEE (Social and Environmental Entrepreneurs) as its fiscal sponsor. All donations are tax deductible. If you would like more information on our mission, vision, projects, and how to donate, please explore our beautiful new website.
We understand that you have many charities to give to this holiday season. We at CREER hope that you can spread some of your love and generosity over the bridge we are creating to support the people of Costa Rica and the place we now call home. Thank you for your time and sincere consideration.
Joshua Canter Kristin McCarthy Mauricio Jaen
